Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage
Every June, Providence hosts a cultural celebration that is truly vibrant. The Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage promotes the various contributions of the Portuguese people to the culture and fabric of life in Rhode Island. The festival is held on June 10th which is historically significant because that is the day that famous Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camoes died in 1580. Various aspects of the culture are celebrated, but most significantly, the event is designed to educate future generations about the importance of passing on their traditions.
